This Privacy Policy details how I, Gill Dunkerley of Manchester Mind Matters uses and protects any information that you give when you use this Service.

I am committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should I ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, you can be reassured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

This policy may change occasionally.   It is therefore suggested that you regularly check this page to ensure that you are happy with the measures that I am taking to protect your privacy. This policy is effective from 16th April 2018.

Collection and Disclosure of Information

You may give me information about you such as name, address and phone number or other personal information via phone, e-mail or otherwise.  The data collected by Manchester Mind Matters is for the purpose of safe-guarding the client in the event of risk,  used in general business practice (record keeping and accounts) and as part of a contract to undertake therapeutic work.  In the event of risk, personal data may be shared with my counselling supervisor, GP or Health Centre staff, other health professionals or the Emergency Services. Information may also be disclosed if there is a legal obligation to share, such as terrorism, money laundering or other serious criminal activity.   Data may also be shared with my counselling supervisor as part of my regular and required supervision and in the event of my illness or incapacity.

With regard to each of your visits to my site, I may automatically collect the following information:

Technical information, including the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform;


This website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of the site. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer’s hard drive.  If you don’t want me to use cookies in your web browser, you can remove them from your computer or change your browser settings so that it either blocks cookies altogether or asks you if you’d like to accept them from some websites.

Contact Forms

Any information you provide via my contact form is only used to get in touch with you about the counselling service provided by Manchester Mind Matters and to organise an initial appointment.  None of this data will be shared with anyone else (unless I am required to do so legally).  Once the initial enquiry has been made all data will be deleted.

Please be aware that I am not currently using an email encryption programme so any emails we send to each other may be vulnerable to viruses or human error.  If you choose to communicate with me by email please be aware that all emails are retained in the logs of Internet Service Providers

Use of information

I will use your information:

  • to carry out my obligations arising from any contracts entered into between you and me and to provide you with the information and services that you request from me;
  • Internal record keeping – for example, logging client hours;
  • To operate my business efficiently including financial records;

Data storage and retention

All data collected during counselling sessions will be retained securely online or locked in a filing cabinet for a period of 5 years.  This is a requirement of my insurer after which it will be deleted or shredded by Gill Dunkerley who is the data controller.   Telephone numbers are held on my smart phone and are routinely deleted once counselling has ended.

The data that I collect from you online will be transferred to, and stored at, a destination within the European Economic Area (“EEA”).

Transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. I will do my best to protect your personal data but this cannot be guaranteed.  The security of any data you transmit to my site is at your own risk. However, once I have received your information, I will treat it sensitively to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Access to information

You can request access to the personal information that I hold about you. I will provide this except in the limited circumstances in which I am not permitted to. This information will be provided free of charge.

You may request amendments to the personal information I hold about you that is inaccurate or out-of-date. If you request that I delete your personal information, I will take all reasonable steps to do so unless I need to keep it for legal, auditing or internal business purposes.
