Manchester Mind Matters provides counselling for individuals who need support to improve their mental health and well-being.   I offer an approach tailor-made to suit the individual needs of my clients which can include person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or mindfulness.   All of this takes place in a safe and supportive environment.   We can even take your therapy outdoors if the idea of sitting in an office doesn’t appeal.  See my page on walking therapy for more details:

What is counselling?

My role isn’t to solve your problems or offer advice but what I will do is really listen to you and try to understand the world from where you’re standing.  I’ll also give you the opportunity to explore your problems with someone who can be trusted and who accepts you for who you are.  The idea of counselling is that if people feel truly listened to, supported and accepted it allows them to find their inner resources to solve their own problems and make positive changes.  This is the essence of person-centred counselling.

I am also able to offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which is evidenced as being an effective therapy for treating anxiety, panic, depression, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder as well as many other conditions.  CBT looks at how our thoughts, feelings are behaviour are interlinked.  It’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of negative thinking and behaviour and CBT helps people develop strategies for breaking this cycle.  I can also combine this with Mindfulness and/or Walking Therapy.

What happens during the first session?

During the first session we can decide which approach you prefer and which is likely to be the most helpful to you.   We can also discuss what you want to get out of counselling and how we might go about achieving this.  This can be anything from looking at specific problems such as redundancy to exploring more deep seated issues which may stop you being the person you want to be. Perhaps you just need some headspace? A place to get your thoughts together and gain some clarity? I can provide a confidential, non-judgmental space and the support to allow you to do just that.  Much can be achieved in a few sessions but I’m also happy to work longer-term depending on requirements.   If you’d like to take this first step to making positive changes in your life, my telephone and email address can be found on the contacts page.  Get in touch.
